A Blast From The Past

Things have gone from sort-of-out-of-the-ordinary to straight pseudo-doomsday. Stores are pretty empty and all the employees wear face masks. People are told to stay inside. I went to the office yesterday and went home before noon. Had a quick meeting with the people there and we solemnly said our fairwells, not knowing when we'd all be at the office again. At least we set up all the VPN and password stuff in a way that makes working from home easy.

Been working from home the last few days. There's been a fair trickle of people making contact, so the world isn't completely dead. The real concern I have about all this isn't the virus really but what's going to happen to the economy. A lot of people are going to lose their jobs due to this and who knows what kind of ripple effect this is going to have. My job is reasonably secure, more than many, but if things get really bad who knows what could happen. Best not to overanalyze it.

At leas with the quarantine I've been able to get started on work projects that have been hanging the past half year. With no one interrupting I've gotten a lot done. At least there's this positive aspect of all this. Lights are on, water's running, internet works and there's still food, so society isn't even near collapsing. My collegue told me I should go out of my way to ensure I never have to trust the government and maybe this is the wake up call I need.
