Two consecutive days of posting, wowie. But today I actually have something to write about!

Yesterday when I was posting another depressingly mundane update about my life I noticed from my dashboard that I was getting some messed up comments on one of my post. Like a lot of them. 1377 comments on a post about my thrilling afternoon playing Untitled Goose Game.

I knew this day would come. The bots found my site's comments section. When I implemented comments sometime around the quarantine in the beginning of April, I didn't have any captcha set up since I thought that I could just remove stray comments from bots selling dick pills myself. It's not like there is much traffic here anyway so why would bots even bother? Well, apparently my idea of comment-spamming bots was pretty naive. This bot was spewing some pretty freaky shit as much as it could and I knew I would have to write that captcha right away to save my site from crashing under the weight of this barrage.

I took a look at the logs and it appears that this traffic was coming from a few IP addresses.

It looks like a few are from France, likely someone's infected IP-camera or IoT refrigerator going to town. I noticed the captcha has prevented them from commenting but I'm going to have to blacklist the IPs as well since they're still going at it and doing their darndest to post those sweet AIDS comments.

So now if you want to comment you're going to have to fill in the little captcha above the posting button. I haven't implemented a reload button yet so check if you can't make out the code before you write your magnum opus so you can reload the page to get a new code.

The text these bots are spamming looks pretty interesting and I'm going to look into it and see what it's all about and what purpose it serves. Is it just to add word combinations to sites so other spiders can find the site? Who knows. I removed most of the comments already but kept a sample you can read from here: https://m4ra.net/ooh_la_la_bot.txt
