I started watching the tv series "Utopia" over the weekend. I've been meaning to watch it for like the past 4 years but never got around to it. It has a very distinct visual style and the cinematography has these rich, deep colors that make it seem almost "too real". The show is really graphic, I mean people fucking die in the worst possible ways in this show and they pretty much show all of it, people drowning in their own blood, getting shredded by trucks, all of it. Despite that it still retains this odd upbeat mood. The upbeat mood is quite uneasy at times, like a person will just smile and then next thing you know he's slicing a guy's throat open. That's what I like about it though, the grim reality that is only thinly hidden by the facade of civil society. I'm only two episodes into the first season, and the pacing might be a bit slow, but I'm going to watch it to the end for sure.

Utopia - Season 2, Episode 6 - Opening scene

This scene is one of the first I ever saw and I think it really encapsulates the show really well. It says more about the show than I ever could.

I've been listening to the soundtrack for years already. I like how it's offbeat and a bit random, but still has a creepy ambient sense to it.
